Originally rendered in rich, colored pencil on paper, this enchanting image of lovely Maia one of the first two elephants rescued by the Global Sanctuary for Elephants. Poor Maia was chained for years in a small yard a mere 12 feet apart from another elephant named Maia. She suffered horrible health and emotional issues from being chained for such a long period of time. Since their rescue and retirement both Maia and Guida have grown healthy both in body and in spirit. It is our mission to ensure that all elephants have a safe happy place to call home.
